The London Breed is a newly commissioned work by Kerry Andrew inspired by
Benjamin Zephaniah’s Poem and has been written for the final night of the Music
For Youth Schools Prom on Wednesday 12th November 2014 at the Royal
Albert Hall.
The London Breed is a musical snapshot of London from the view of some of the performers, who have provided new words and musical elements entirely inspired by Benjamin Zephaniah's poem. Big Ben, The Shard, skylines, noise, traffic and many different languages all come into play in a work that encompasses classical, pop and experimental elements and exciting music technology.
The world premiere of The London Breed will be performed by a massed ensemble of over 500 performers from the South Riverside Music Partnership including Animate Orchestra, Junior Trinity Symphony Orchestra and a choir of 400 singers from the London Boroughs of Lambeth, Lewisham, Royal Greenwich and Southwark.
This is the South Riverside Music Partnership’s debut at the Schools Prom, and we are delighted to have been selected by Music for Youth to perform at such a prestigious event.
